BUSKERS

November 22nd, 2019 (One Night Event)

“Buskers” is a fundraiser and art exhibition created to offer an opportunity to underrepresented art makers. The first version of this show took place two years ago at Usable Space in Milwaukee, and it was presented as a symbolic critique of the market as well as a way for a few artists to make their rent. The proposition was that contributing a nickel-at-a-time from a broad and generous community could be more sustainable and ultimately democratic than the traditional model of distributive justice in the art world where a handful of collectors write a few large checks to a small group of well-established artists.

We’ve decided to broaden the concept this year and put out an open call for the show, which will take place on November 22 on the final Friday before the official start to the holiday season. All visitors to the gallery on opening night will be required to purchase a roll of change (from pennies to half dollars) upon entering the gallery and deposit in designated vessels adjacent to the art works. Artists will keep all proceeds from all art sales and donations. REAL TINSEL for its part will match all contributions with a single gift to the Hunger Task Force of Milwaukee.

We feel that by supporting and funding creatives at community level reflects what’s best about Milwaukee. We hope you will join us at this one-night benefit to offer your direct support of artists and musicians, and to our city’s neediest families.
