Melissa Scherrer Paré
Melissa Paré is a Milwaukee-based artist whose practice explores class, desire, and material value through sculpture and decorative objects. Working primarily with handmade paper pulp and found objects, she transforms inexpensive and discarded materials into highly decorative vessels and sculptural forms.
Paré grew up in a working-class, blue-collar neighborhood of Milwaukee, an experience that continues to inform her relationship to objects, consumption, and ideas of beauty and value. Her work draws on the tension between the humble materials she uses and the desire for objects that feel precious, ornamental, and worthy of attention.
